Home & Workplace as Metaphors

In order to “capture the humanity” of our workflow model, we have integrated within our course design two virtual environments based on metaphors of personal relevance for our users: “the Home” and “the Workplace”.

Tier 1: Foundations: Home Virtual Environment
Tier 2: Professional: Workplace Virtual Environment

Since the focus of our course is to provide a socially-connected online virtual platform of goal-directed modules for a unique group of users to be able to learn and practice professional writing skills, it only makes sense to appeal to the goals of the personas. Namely, our personas not only want to improve their professional writing skills (i.e., Workplace metaphor) but also need to write better for its own sake (i.e., House metaphor).
