Scenario #2: Jessica Receives Feedback
Background. In this scenario, our persona Jessica accesses the Living Room module to receive feedback on her submitted assignments for the module. It is 11:45 am on a Wednesday morning. Jessica likes to access the online writing program during her lunch break, which is normally 11:45am to 12:15pm each day. On Monday, Jessica submitted her assignment for Lesson 4 and the assessment for the Living Room module. Earlier this morning, she received an email that her assignment has been reviewed and given feedback by a Learning and Development team member. The Learning and Development team is composed of three staff members and they work together to provide feedback to the learners using the system.
Scenario. Jessica goes to the Windows 7-based computer in her office and unlocks it using her departmental username and password. She double-clicks on the writing program icon on her desktop but her web browser crashes once the page loads. Thinking that the link does not work, she then accesses the departmental SharePoint intranet and clicks on the link within the intranet to the SCRAWL writing course website.
After logging in, she sees on the system menu. At the top of the menu, a circle with a 2 indicates that there are two assignments waiting to be viewed. Jessica clicks on the circle. A pop-up menu allows Jessica to select whether to view the feedback for Lesson 4 or for the module assessment. Jessica clicks on the option for Lesson 4 and is taken to the web page for Lesson 4.
On the webpage, there is a list of submissions. Jessica’s submission is at the top. She sees red markup for suggestions from Jeffrey, a Learning and Development staff member. Off to the right is a box with a picture of Jeffrey from the departmental directory, Jeffrey’s name, and some comments.
Below her own submission, she sees submissions from other students to compare to her own work.
Satisfied with the feedback, Jessica scrolls up to the top of the page where there is a circle. The circle now has a 1 in it, indicating that there is one more feedback to view. Jessica clicks on the circle. Because there is only one feedback to view, she is immediately taken to the review screen for the module assessment.
The module assessment has been graded manually as it is a writing practice. It was graded using a rubric. The average score of two of the reviewers were used to provide the final score. Jessica sees that she scored a 96. There are two boxes showing comments from both reviewers. A name and picture is not displayed for either comment.
A big button is displayed at the bottom of the screen that says “collect your badge”. Jessica clicks on the button and is taken to her profile screen, which displays the newly acquired badge for completing the Living Room activity (Foundations of English Grammar). Jessica, still having time on her break, clicks the “begin next activity” button which takes her to the first lesson of the Garage module (Writing Mechanics).
